Count text.
Count characters, non-whitespace characters, lines, and Latin words or numbers in your text.
Characters are grapheme clusters, so an emoji counts as one. Empty input has 0 lines; a final newline adds an empty line. The word count covers Latin words and numbers, not Chinese or Japanese word segmentation.
Every character accounted for.
- Paste your text or import a UTF-8 .txt file.
- Read the live totals below the editor.
- Edit your text and the totals update automatically.
Counts are descriptive rather than platform-specific limits. Emoji and combining marks are counted as visible grapheme clusters. Chinese and Japanese word counts are not estimated.
Use UTF-8 plain text, up to 1 MB and 20,000 lines per input.

Common questions
How are Chinese characters and emoji counted?
Characters are counted as visible graphemes, so a complete emoji usually counts as one character. Use the character total for Chinese text; the word total counts Latin-script words and numbers, not Chinese or Japanese word segmentation.
Which files can I import?
Paste plain text or import UTF-8 .txt files, up to 1 MB and 20,000 lines per input. PDF, Word documents and images are not supported directly; extract the plain text first. Text stays in the current tab's memory.
